Fewer and fewer Americans are getting their insurance, particularly health insurance, through their jobs. There is a very strong trend today toward independent contractor arrangements and other methods of creating benefit-less jobs. The Kaiser Family Foundation, a respected research organization, reported in their 2009 Employer Health Benefits Annual Survey that the percentage of employers offering health insurance has declined from 69% in 2000 to 60% last year (and that was before the current recession began).
